Shoe Crazy

Recently I've been crazy in searching for the right shoes. I searched/browsed online, on daily basis, for the right maroon/burgundy suede shoes. Yup, only in that particular colour and material. Because I know I want it. Very badly. This is actually triggered by my dad (yup, blaming him now); he bought a pair of Puma Suede Classic in Ensign Blue. I always loved suede, and been keeping an eye on Puma shoes too. And the idea of maroon suede just popped straight into my thought the moment I saw that pair of shoes.

So, what shoes I put into consideration?

Friggin' love this shoe; Adidas Busenitz Skateboarding in Maroon.

Went to Mid Valley/The Gardens for dinner with Shuk, Mak & Wenni at Dome today. Reached there earlier so I went into Studio R with Shuk first in hope for it. They don't have it.

Then I searched for different target. The Puma Suede Classic Burgundy. Well, it's not there but guess what I found? A different Suede (I dunno whether its Classic, Eco or Tropics) in two-tone; mulberry purple body, burgundy toe-tongue. Can't find the picture online though.

Next, Vans! It is not the most favourable choice, but what to do when there's no choice? And out of expectation, I found the pairs I saw online, all of them. Whatthehell!

Then I walked over to Sole What at The Gardens for more scouting. Yup, the Vans are there and so were those shoes I loved but too high priced.

Now which pair to buy? I thought I would at least get the Puma Suede Burgundy in case the Adidas Busenitz is not available but ended up both were the same case. Sigh.

Face Hunter

I remember back in one of my shopping day, I came across those floral-themed and mixes men's shirts in Topman. I thought, why don't I try to mix one of these and be outstanding? But then that would defeat the purpose of my personal style; to be understated.

These reminds me of a conversation with a passe-satorial friend of mine who came back from Australia. He was, as I described earlier, in check with his personal style and have a good sense of what to mix and not. But recently, he clad in beachwear with reason that Malaysia's weather is too hot to dress in proper (however that's not the case for formal dinner). I have to admit that his sense was somewhat spoiled and wish to bring him back to what he was before. During our stroll in shopping mall for a pair of casual low-cut shoes, I kept pestering him of leather and suede lace-ups. He said he'll only wear sandals for such weather. I countered by saying, "You will pass this stage and proceed to a higher one; leather shoes."

Not Much of a Reflection

Roll the time and new semester officially started. Though I'm still at home right now. Haven't enrol yet. And don't know what subject to take. I still remember back in the beginning of January, I was immersed in shopping fever that lead to a series of Pavilion-visiting days. Remember my post Not So Quick Shop? I stated that went to Pavilion (and KLCC) on the 1st and 2nd of January. And then I went to Pavilion on the 3rd too. Bravo!

The third day was tiring, maybe because of the endless strolls. It is not my shopping day, but the girls. I knew they would be taking a 'walk' after the movie (New Year's Eve), regardless of Mak and Wenni invited me for dinner at Lot 10's Hutong. So, Sheng, Shuk and me kinda accompanied them while checking out stuff too.

They finally got to hug The Chipmunks displayed at GSC after missing the chance last time.

Remember the Christmas decorations? They cleared them up in one night and replaced with this dragon. Blimey!

I was bored...

But they do posed...

Went through lot of shops and she was interested into many things, including this. Which was ultimately ditched later.

I was bored again LOL...

I stayed at home in the next few days, cleaning the fans, windows and so on. Not until Saturday where I was dragged out without knowing where (which was Mid Valley/The Gardens) for lunch. Room18 sucks, there was a food fair, and I found few pair of nice shoes by DC, Converse and Vans. Oh I need a short pants! We conclude the day with Gong Cha!!! Really nice, better than Ochado that I tasted back in Pavilion.

Tea, cream milk and nice thingy. Superb! I think the name is Signature Winter Melon something tea. LOL!

Then we had supper at night outside my house, chatting so gingerly happy (random sentence). Now, it's time to pack up and go back Nilai for my new semester!!! Bye!

Pour homme

Apparently and miraculously, this summer is all about oversized squarish-sharp cutting top in cotton and fleece. And reflective linen long trousers. And leather sandals or shoes.

Colours? Bland, earth with a dash of sharp colours like orange, yellow, or red.

Pour femme

Summer usually relates to floral patterns and bright colours. But gone were the vibrant flowers and welcome the dull, mirror-themed vintage floral designs on some satin-like material. Also the multi-bright colours and navy sailor-themed clothing.

However, don't take my words seriously as these were all random babbling of mine. Style is made by you and own by yourself.

Not So Quick Shop

Happy new year peeps! My new year was kinda tiring due to hours of strolling in the malls. 1st of Jan was spent strolling in Pavilion with Adrian and Shuk. Adrian wanted a trouser and few cufflink wrist shirts as he received cufflinks as present. We accompanied him to Zara, Topman, and lastly G2000. Zara prices were steep, giving the immaculate cuttings and materials quality. Topman had that nice in-trend cutting tweed trouser that I eyed for a long time, but the material is a bit inferior. So we ended in G2000.

Those white premium line shirts were great, but he had one. So we had to debate on those lines and checkers and colours even waited for replies from Stephanie (thanks to the lacked of coverage). After many pretty girls later in what seemed like an hour, we finally came into conclusion and paid for the stuff. Then off we go to Zara Lot 10.

Adrian: "What do you think of these?" Shin: "Like picnic tablecloth."

Both were bought.

Why Zara Lot 10? Do you remember in my past blog entry Quick Shop, I mentioned I wanted that black striped polo from Zara? All that left were light blue pieces, so I tried my luck in Lot 10. Worst, the salesperson said they moved the stocks to KLCC branch. My mind felt devastated; why must every piece of clothes not available? Back in G2000, I had my eye on one particular piece and put that into the "Backup/Improvisation List" in case it is not available again.

The next day after a lunch with the guys, Shuk, Kok Leong and me went to KLCC to strive for it. As expected, it was sold out (except that light blue piece). However I did saw that Contrasting Pinpoint Shirt in white (and other colours). From this experience, I noticed that most stocks were retained in the KLCC branch, while for Topman the prices in Pavilion are somewhat cheaper maybe due to the cheaper store rental fee. I went to G2000 to grab that polo tee I mentioned and next strolled around stores like Banana Republic, Uniqlo (boring), and lastly GAP. Banana Republic had 50% discount of selected items which you're not interested at. The designs are very Americans, materials used are of fine quality. Think of it as upmarket GAP.

I spent desperate effort in GAP to buy last piece of somewhat ugly fine striped maroon-black classic polo tee. There were those GAP logo roundneck tees littered around, RM99.90 I guess, but I do not wish to help them advertise. A bit regret buying this polo tee and this feeling was further fortified of which I will describe later.

Balenciaga and LUSTRO opened in KLCC. Niche upmarket brands started moving in, with Versace Jeans opening soon on the same row with Ben's. I wonder when will the likes of Givenchy, Balmain, Christian Louboutin and Lanvin come. Not that I have the credit power to purchase them high fashion stuff. But I do wish the affordable H&M would open a store here, since they expanded a few stores in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia recently.

Next we moved to Pavilion again, to exchange that free Seed watch I got from my purchase last time. But since the Padini Concept store did not have ready stock, we exchanged them in Lot 10's branch. That was where I saw a nice thick blue striped polo tee, sigh. Shouldn't have bought the GAP one. Anyway, I bought a pair of Rider flip-flops in Pavilion to replace my worn iPanema pair. It was a bit lethargic to be in the same shopping mall for few days, and imagine the horror that Stephanie asked me for movie tomorrow at the same shopping mall! But they do give me opportunities to snap pictures that I never had did before.

Reminds me of my childhood shopping craziness together with mom.

By now you would've noticed that my purchases were of collar shirt/tee. Last year, I followed the trend of denim, chambray and military green. But for this year, I aimed at looking somewhat formal but still maintaining that sense of casual. I do not want to look childish with graphics roundneck tee. Short sleeve shirt would be ideal, but finding the right ones in Kuala Lumpur is a pain in the ass as I did it before. Long sleeve shirt isn't ideal due to the temperature we had the whole year. I did not plan to buy any pants this year because of lack of budget, or maybe I do not have that "feel" yet. No pants catches up my eyes yet anyway. Shoes? Maybe I will buy it somewhere after the Chinese New Year.

We bought J.Co donuts and Papa Beards for snacks. Brought the donuts up to Adrian and Steph's house as appetiser for dinner too! Stephanie changed her phone protective case, after asking me last time which is cuter, LOL.

Trip to Kampar

On Christmas eve, my friends and I went to Kampar, Perak for a trip. We went there separately, setting off at 6pm, 7.30pm and 8pm. All reached before 10.30pm, in time for our late dinner of steamboat. We stayed at Vincent's aunt house located at Mambang DiAwan, about 5-10 minutes away from Kampar. It is a place of serenity and bliss, without the troubles of city. Well, that's what you call a trip isn't it?

After the game, all dozed off and left us clean the table. Tan and Steph helped wash the dishes later.

We ended the day with Christmas wishes, more Xbox Kinect sport games and poker. The next morning, we were woken up by Tan and Vincent fairly early, so we could arrived in time for the last slot of Gua Tempurung Grand Tour (by 11am). It is the last and most challenging option offered there. We were advised by Vincent not to bring anything there, not even camera, phones and wallet as we need to climb, crawl, swim and slide in the cave. So in the end, I did not snap any precious pictures while on the expedition. So you will have to make do with pictures I nicked online.

At the entrance, we were greeted by spectacular view of Golden Flowstone cavern and flight of stairs (1104 steps if I remember correctly). Pictures by Bojeng.

As pictures shown, there were 10 resting platforms among the flight of stairs. As we were expecting something more challenging than these, we can't help but asking why can't we bring camera? This is nothing! The challenge arrived pretty much 20 minutes later when we descend from the Top of the World. It was quiet and the ranger (guide) brought us out of the fenced track onto the gravel. There we headed off into the darkness, walking on unpaved road. We had to light the trail using our torch-lights along the journey as there were no light available. While climbing around, I opted to stay the most back to light the people in front. As I switched off the torchlight and turned my head back, I was greeted by cold air and total darkness. Yup, can't see a thing at all.

The so-called tour was exciting, as we were amazed with a number of natural cave formations, dripping waters from stalactites onto the stalagmites, deep pits, and coconut shell-like caverns. The tour is 3.8km long; the first half of the tour is rather interesting. We had to climb on slippery surface of up to 80 degree inclinations, and also slide down multiple times until we reached into the underground stream. Then we were led walking and even duck-walked across the narrow caves with our feet under cold water.

During the journey, it is important to stay calm and be patience as teamwork is significant. However, as the darkness creep into you, panic ensues and you wouldn't understand why you acted weirdly. Such is an example when Adrian can't stop cursing at me for reason that I walked and jumped in the cave like an experienced caveman. Ci Jue also grown impatient and started shouting at Steph for being slow. I had to both be shouted at and maintain the calm on these two fella, whatthehell. At the end of the first half, we sled down a narrow slippery cave, walked along the stream in the darkness and alas, light.

The second half of the journey follows the stream back to the entrance of the cave. This is where we were thrown in the midst of narrow and dangerous climbs, lengthy rock-slip-around, through multiple slippery slides, muddy (read: Guano aka bat shits) crawls. I moved to the front most during this journey to light Su Ching and her sister, while waiting for the others at the back. Even with my good grips, I fell 3 times into a 6-7 feet hole in the dark because of the slippery guano-glazed surfaces and my shoes. Luckily I lighted the area before making my footsteps so I know it is safe to fall. Stephanie screamed maybe because she thought I was going to die LOL. She screamed a lot anyway, meh.

The tour became more and more hard as we need to crawl under the stream because of the limited spaces, and sled down near 4-storeys high. It is scary during the crawl when I'm in the most front, and the ranger gone way ahead, and I had to put the torch to my back to light the people coming. I faced near complete darkness, dripping waters and lots of gooey stalactites around me. This is not for claustrophobic person as you will be encased within chambers of stalactites and feet high of water.

At the end of the journey, we have to agree that we never like sunlight as before. We were drenched, tired and some even bleed. I like this tour, might be coming back too! But of course with submerge-able camera, flash light and better gripping shoes.

The girls demanded to go back immediately as they did not bring clothes to change, therefore Kok Leong and Hong brought them back leaving us here to wash and change at available bathrooms. Then Vince brought us (Tan, Adrian, Shuk and me) to Foong Mun Kee for ais kacang and Yao Kee for the famous Kampar bread curry chicken (min bao gai). No pictures again cos' I didn't bring my phone.

Back home!

Back home, we showered and soldiered on with multiple Fruit Ninja challenges and sport games while the girls take a nap. Then we head out to Kampar new town for dinner! And, we also found out that Haji Ghani's Ghani special roti canai is so tasty! It's roti canai with sugar, egg and sweetcorn fillings by the way.

The next morning, we woke up early again to rush home as Tan need to go for Sungai Lembing expedition while Adrian and Steph got family trip. We gathered for presents exchange and then breakfast. Then off back to KL!

Overall, this is a good trip to ease our city life. Cheap food and fun adventures available. Many thanks to everyone for making this happen, especially Vincent and Tan and also Kok Leong for driving us around. I am looking forward for another trip again.

Back on Christmas eve, my friends and I were a bit confused on whether our trip was on or not. Despite that, I went out with 2 buddies for lunch at Inhouse then head straight to Pavilion. On the way to Pavilion, we received phone calls saying that the trip was still on and that we need to go out in 2 hours. Thus, there is no time to waste. My friend settled with his Fossil watch strap replacement enquiry and I had my goals in mind.

Went in Topman for a quick browse for their shirts and nothing caught my eyes. Then it's Seed in Padini concept store to find similar design of shirts I like from Zara.

A friend of mine got one of similar design with the exclusion of the breast pocket from Seed few months ago. That was what made me enter the store (as I don't really fancy products from Padini Corp since they overcharged for underpar fabrics). I didn't see any that matches such design, but a shirt did caught my eyes though, and I put that on my backup list before heading over to Pull & Bear. I did some online browsing beforehand and decided to buy from Pull & Bear if I can't find the required shirt.

Went to the store just to know that all were not available except the first shirt on the top left. But I dislike the flimsy material, so didn't get it. Please do note that the prices in-store are lower than online prices due to promotion. Rushed back to Padini concept store and took the shirt I laid my eyes on, then the salesperson said there is an ongoing promotion of 10% discount and free watch for every receipt above RM180. Thus, I got another white polo and gave the watch to my friend.

Trying out the shirt and polo tee; I actually liked the cutting of the polo tee (right) although the fabric used is off inferior quality.

Highlights: The denim collar of the otherwise plain shirt.

The denim collar of the shirt can be swapped with a plain white collar (provided) via buttons. The construction is a bit flimsy with threads coming out from here and there. Total expenditure - not even RM190. Bargain? This is the first time I bought something with instant improvisation to my budget in a very short time. What a trill haha!

My next shop would be, or maybe another polo from Zara and a red long sleeve roundneck tee from Uniqlo (since they're having promotion for it until 31st of Dec).

Fabrics and Materials

Have you ever wonder when you saw a piece of clothing, shirt for example, with names like flannel, gingham, or even seersucker? Or jacket with names like fleece, corduroy, or tweed? What do they mean? They actually refer to the material or fabric of that particular clothing, which sometimes of what they tried to mimic. There are many types of fabrics and materials used in clothes and shoes. Here, I will try to introduce a few, the more common ones (but not as common as cotton, denim and polyester) to you. Have fun browsing :)

Corduroy

Durable fabric used on trousers and jackets, one of my least like fabric.

Canvas

Heavy-duty plain-woven fabric used for shoes, bags and jackets.

Cashmere

Fine textured wool, provides good insulation.

Chambray

Defined as "a fine lightweight fabric woven with white threads across a colored warp", I treat it as a lightweight denim.

Chino

Khaki

Often mistaken with chino, the way I separate them is by the textile; khaki is usually coarser and heavier.

Flannel

Flannel usually made of thicker wool or cotton into plaid patterns.

Gingham

Gingham usually made of fine weaves, thus thinner than flannel.

Fleece

A fabric made of soft woolly deep pile.

Grosgrain

(Left to right) Ribbed appearance, Lanvin grosgrain collar shirt.

Linen

A common material used on most shirts and trousers.

Patent Leather

Lacquering of leather (Japanning) to high-gloss, shiny finish.

Suede Leather

Leather with napped finish, usually from the back of animal skin. My favourite fabric for a pair of shoes.

Seersucker

Very thin, puckered fabric usually used in summer.

Tweed

Rough, unfinished woolen fabric, (left to right) Prince of Wales, Herringbone, and Harris.

Shoes

Some wear the same pair of shoes, some alternate depending on occasion and some just have too many pairs to choose. I was wedged between the first 2, and that explains the reason why I am in a dilemma right now.

It came to me that I needed a new shirt for that special occasion (such as dad's coming birthday celebration which requires us to go all the way up to Penang... ), as backup to my worn old shirts. And to pair with it, I have my vintage coloured chino. Then, the shoes. Right. No, the Nike sneakers won't match it. I left my Converse plimsolls back in hostel and it was worn anyway. So do I need to buy a new pair of shoes for this, or do I just sucked up with my kinda worn Pedro sneakers?

I actually kinda made up my mind to decide about the shoes after the Chinese New Year (money yay!) and to buy it before Hong Kong, or in Hong Kong. So I went for window-shopping, online, to get the idea of shoes I would buy. Some Fred Perry did match, but they're kinda overpriced here. I know moccasins, desert shoes, boat shoes, lace-ups and even oxfords would fit the look, but they were all out of my puny budget. Talking about them, nothing beats an oxfords with nice cream suede or canvas top and wooden sole, or lace-up with tanned leather. Okay, unless it's a tanned leather brogues.

I looked into Zara, Park & Bond, Topman, HAVEN and even LowYat sales thread for inspiration. Less talk, time for pictures.

Converse First String Straight Shooter Spec Ox Natural US$96. I love suede and cream and this is not the first suede from Cons.

Mark McNairy, (left to right) Plain Derby Oxfords US$315, and Anthracite Suede Long Wing Brogues US$395. I love the quirky combination of these, especially the lightning blue sole. They remind me of Prada.

After all these, I have to say, maybe I'll just go for another pair of plain Chuck Taylor cons or find a nice pair of Fred Perry. I am not a fashionista but I can be very particular when it comes matching the clothes. I am somewhat conscious of the clothes I wear, so that I don't create an eyesore to myself. I constantly observe and try on different pants and shoes and top of different cuttings to know what they create. I do made a lot of mistakes in the past, noticed them when I looked at my reflection from the mirror in any boutique.

Welcome back to another Random post! Got out of the laziness (though momentarily) of just posting fashion entries.

I did my final examination for the year, and I'm officially in holiday! Back at home, on my bed, hugged my dogs... nothing feels like home. Except I need to do house chores. And bathe the dogs. And maybe follow my dad to work. And... alright, enough. The night was cool, banging (again) newly acquired dubsteps like Barsonic vol.6 by Mr. Nasty, Cinema (Skrillex Remix), My Ferrari (Gigi Barocco Remix), and Raise Your Weapon by Deadmau5 as opposed to my Madeon Remix version.

Both arms still aching, wonder can I perform for Badminton tonight. Rain had been falling on Kuala Lumpur this whole week, good weather for cake and a cuppa. And the good news; mom stocked up cheese, green tea and walnut cakes in the fridge! I was planning to go Pavilion today for stress-relieve shopping but woke up half past one, kinda guilty to myself, haha! Oh, friend called to ask me out for leisure stroll.

Peer pressure

I'm typing this right after my final outing of the year, a relaxing one, with my classmates right after our final exam paper. Phew! Been overusing my brain for at least 8 days; revising and in deep thought for 10-12hours per day.

Right, peer pressure. Which kind?

Back in my Diploma days, or even secondary school, I had been easy on myself in studies. As my parents never pressure me and I was rather laid back, I didn't put much effort into getting a distinction for any subjects I took. To me, exam papers were just, papers. What is it going to do with my life? I can live even without straight distinction. SPM, for example, is just an entry requirement to reputable government university or to help you in applying scholarships. Diploma? I can retake the subject if I failed. I just need to put a little bit effort to graduate within the planned period.It is that simple.

However, life changed a lot once I entered a different university to pursue Degree. Being engulfed within my cloud of intelligent yet playful friends, I learned a few things; Pay attention in class, think in logical ways, and score as high as possible. Believe it or not, among this group, I am the only one that did not get in Dean's list before. They, on the other hand, got into Dean's list (GPA 3.5) and President's list (GPA 4.0) almost on semester basis (I was about to say daily, LOL). Even in this semester, one of my friend are confirmed to be in the President's list while a few of them, realised that they made tiny mistake, will have to settle for Dean's list.

Have you ever been this high-expectation in your studies? Seeing them being this hardworking (during examination period, who don't?), I had to break my laziness and studied together with them. I understood now, it is a sense of achievement within each person. Some may be satisfied with mere passing marks, but to some, not getting an A (or A+) is a kind of insult to themselves. We even joked among ourselves, "What, your passing mark is 70 is it?" This semester marks the first time ever, me, studying without sleeping, for extended hours. It was also the first time I, along with few others, studied till shouting, dizzy, headache and some of them even vomited. Mental~

Now I understand why people gone crazy when studying. Or die of hunger. Or faint. Or... what?

Anyway, this may be a good peer pressure. I hope I do get into Dean's list someday, that's my aim. For this semester, though I did aim to get straight A's, it is not enough as I realised I failed to do so. Hope my brain gets extra kick next time to be in-shape for it!

SNSD 3rd Album The Boys

The album was released 6 days ago. Though I am a fan, but not so frantic to the point of rushing things and stuff like that. Okay, stop babbling, here's the stuff.

This album release date actually delayed due to the synchronization of a global release. They made a rather international comeback, prominently in the USA and South Korea. As a surprise, even in a tiny country like Malaysia, the local stores did sell the album from the same date of release. Beware of huge bandwidth consume.

La Gomera

On October the 20th, after a myriad amount of tests, reports and assignment, my groupmates and I went for a fulfilling buffet. La Gomera offers Spanish cuisine which is not widely available in Kuala Lumpur. However, given its location, it is not easy to find it unless you consult the GPS or someone been there before.

We went there during dinner buffet, 6pm-11pm, with special promotion, it cost at a very low price; RM29.95+ from ordinary price RM59.90+. Bottomless drinks and grilled meat by-order are being offered, it certainly 'quenched' our hunger for meat.

You might want to book for place beforehand if you are to go after 7pm, the restaurant is busy with customers after that period. Recommended to go at 6pm to get your hands on all the types of food offered. There are whole table of salad varieties, soups, and meat. There is also an open kitchen where there are bowls for you to put the clips (provided on your dining table) in to order for more food such as oysters, cheese baked oysters, grilled beef tenderloin, beef sirloin, salmon, chicken chop, spaghetti, meat sticks, pizza and et cetera. Desserts of ice cream, pudding and cream custard also available.

The environment is warmth, relaxing and the background music isn't intrusive (very low volume). Overall a very relaxed restaurant to dine in, not too serious like a certain high-priced restaurant that offers buffet dinner. The food are nice, but not memorable. Anyhow, it definitely worth the promo price! I did not snap many pictures as I was busying myself with the grilled beef sirloins (taste good!).

Peugeot in 2018 Design Project

In this semester, I took the subject of Project 1, a preliminary subject to Final Project of my course. We were given a choice to choose between 3 projects; A go-cart powered by 4 units of Bosch drills, a eco-makeover of any building in the university campus (without deconstructing/reconstructing it), and the NST Nasim Sdn. Bhd. and Automobiles Peugeot Design Competition.

Majority of students chose the latter, the Peugeot Design Competition where we are required to design a Peugeot car for the year 2018 aiming at the South East Asian market. The competition requirements are simple, just design a car we deemed fitting for the theme. However, for our Project, as an engineer, we need to consider many engineering requirements to build a car. Please be ready for a lot of words.

My team, consists of Ameer, Richard and myself, decided to create a car as an alternative replacement/improvement on the current Peugeot 308, a C-segment car. For starter, we never thought of entering the competition with this car. This is just an entry for our university project. We researched on many areas, the market, income target, body shape, headlamps, tyres, overall design, and most importantly the engine and hybrid power-assist system. At the very beginning, we decided our theme to be fuel efficient. We never look into the zero (0) emission or biofuel, because we thought it is simply not possible for the year 2018 in South-East Asia.

For market study, we decided to have the car marketed at the price range of RM110k-125k, which is the price range of most hybrid electric cars, aiming at the target income of RM5k and above. To achieve this price, it would mean locally assembling it (CKD). Since ASEAN countries provide incentives for hybrid car (please refer HERE), it would be cheaper to fully import (CBU) them over from Europe. But the reason we are looking at CKD, it's because we're not taking the conventional hybrid system. It is, controversially, not that eco-friendly as its claimed to be. Plus, Nasim Sdn. Bhd. and Gaya Motor of Jakarta are able to locally assembled the Peugeot in the ASEAN region, and the price of the CKD car would be kept at a minimum through the AFTA-CEPT agreement. So that's how the car gonna be sold around the region at practically the same price.

The South-East Asia people prefers petrol over diesel, and diesel quality is not good compared to the European countries. Besides, the road tax system is based on the engine displacement and types of fuel system. Diesel engine requires higher road tax cost. These made us chose petrol engine. We considered over the PSA Peugeot Citroen and BMW engines (of which they both collaborates for engine development), but their petrol engines are not up to our expectations. After thorough research, although it is not possible, we chose the VW CAV 1.4L 16V TSI twincharged (turbo & supercharged) petrol engine. It boast 160PS of power and 240Nm of torque, with fuel economy (combined cycle) at 6L/100km.

For the hybrid power-assist system, we used the new Flywheel KERS, of which the function can be explained HERE. It can save fuel up to 30% in real world driving, cheaper and more environmental friendly in volume production than conventional hybrid electric system. This system already been use on buses and F1, while developments in progress for Jaguar and Volvo.

On the matter of headlamps, full LED headlamp is chosen because of it's quality. It sustain vibration, requires less power and thus less fuel consumption, emit less heat and carbon dioxide while produce higher lumen than conventional halogen bulbs. The circuit board for LED rear lamp had exist for several years, while headlamp will be possible in the near future. We will be using low rolling-resistance tyres, as lower friction requires lower power and thus lower fuel consumption. On the matter of grip and mileage, it is relatively near to conventional tyres.

For our design, we decided to have it in hatchback shape, for it provides a low drag coefficient while giving a sporty look. Low drag coefficient gives better fuel consumption as there is less air resistance. The car is based on the current Peugeot 308, so the overall size of the car doesn't vary much, and we are using back the same chassis used on the Peugeot 306, 307 and 308. I am responsible for the whole car design, from sketching to computer designing. However, I do consult my groupmates on deciding the shapes of lamps and what they want. The French are emotional and impulsive, and sometimes arrogant in the sense of perfection and details. Thus, I designed the car to be arrogant to look at, and yet still kept within the manufacturability range.

I make the front shorter and sharper, as short frontal area means less drag. The C-pillar had been moved back while elongating the side windows to enhance the rear visibility at angled junctions. I added a spoiler at the end of the roof, to avoid turbulence and downforce acting on the rear extruded hatch. The wheelbase is increased by 34mm to improve rear kneeroom while the rear length increased 30mm to increase boot volume.

The track of the car is increased another 30mm to improve stability and handling. As you can see, I dumped the feline muscular design of the current Peugeot 308 for a much refined, arrogant look. I even embedded the new Peugeot design language, the concaved V-shaped on the bonnet. The shutline of the bonnet plays and important role into making the headlamps and the whole front view to be arrogant or furious. I didn't put the floating grille on the car because it is not fitting. On the rear, it is rather a quick decision for the rear lamp design. I sketched a few, my groupmate choose, and I started sketching the whole thing. The lamps were positioned higher so the butt doesn't sag.

There are actually a lot more to write, but I figure a summary will do. And believe me, this whole blog entry is short compared to what I wrote in my report, and what I researched. Before I exit, here is the isometric view of the car, with colour.

And oh, I almost forgot. We named the car as Peugeot Vert K-TSI. 'Vert' (pronounce as lu-where-ah), is French for 'green' while K-TSI marks the marriage of VW TSI engine with flywheel KERS technology. Au revoir!

Dos and Don'ts

All these while I have been putting on pictures from great influential sites/blogs to show you what great people wear on the streets. Now, I have a certain gush to post up on some fashion Dos and Don'ts. Since opinions varied among people, bear with it. The list are meant for both men and women, unless stated.

Dos:

1. Give your wardrobe a pop of colour - You may wear full grey or navy but please add a dash of colour through accessories (belt, earrings, bracelet, scarf) or bags and shoes.

2. Wear textured/plain thighs - Women, they made you looked sexier when pair with appropriate clothing and shoes.

3. Wear plain/earth coloured trousers - Khakis, white jeans and so on will give you a refreshing look depending on how you match with your top.

4. Guys, shave your facial hair - Or you will looked untidy or worse, like a pervert.

5. Put layers if applicable - Sometimes over-dressed is better than under-dressed.

6. Make-up natural to your face tone - They looked great without over-doing it.

7. Wear white - Ladies, you can wear white, especially if the material is good!
8. Play around with colours - Don't be afraid to mix colours together!

Don'ts:

1. Wear a ripped jeans and top - It made you looked cheap, rugged and pitiful.

2. Wear uggs/wellington boots/waterproof plastic shoes - Uggs are meant for snow, and wellington boots for fishmonger (or whatever related job).

3. Wear any tops that reveal your bra - Nobody wanna see your bra straps or worse, your whole bra.

4. Wear tops that reveal your tummy - That is just plain ugly.

5. Wear baseball cap, track suit and sandals to work - You looked like a slob (and whatever equivalent for men) and sandals are for beach (in some occasion, pair with shorts to local mart).

6. Over-pluck your eyebrows - You will look hideous by redrawing them, better don't pluck at all.

7. Wear micro minis - Listen here lady, you think you looked sexy, but we don't wanna see you bending/sitting down and revealing everything down there. Skirts length of 1-inch above your knee would be good.

8. Wear short shorts - Well, you can. But if you don't realise that your thighs are fat, better look into the mirror.

9. Wear pantyhose - You will looked like a grandma, especially with open-toe shoes.

10. Rolled up your pants - Guys, don't do this if you have short legs.

11. Tuck in your tee to show your belt - Once again, guys if you're short, don't do this even if you wanna show your high-end belt. You'll looked ridiculously cheap.

12. Capri pants for guys - Who the hell invented this?!

13. Pop up the collar on your polo tee - Didn't anyone tell you it's a fashion disaster?

14. Wear jerseys - Please, only wear them when you're doing sports or at a match.

15. High rise gladiator sandals - This is so out. Dump them!
16. Matching the colour of bag with shoes - This is so old, don't do it now!

StandChart Marathon 2011: My first entry

Yesterday, I went for the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2011 for the 10km entry. It was my first, and hopefully it's not the last. I registered for it way back in the month of Feb and I haven't even got my running shoes then! 4 months of training later, I find myself running in a good condition all the way to 10.6km mark. It was a great decision to enter this remarkable event, where you find yourself running alongside people of all ages and citizenship. People came all the way from Europe, America, Africa and far Asia. It's fun!

And guess how many people joined this year? Nearly 22,000!!! And I'm running with approximately 12,000 people in my category, in a sea of green. I did not bring a camera and none of my friends joined so there is no picture to show you. After the race, I promised myself that I will join this event again, maybe in the half-marathon category (21km).

Oh, I forgot. The marathon starts at earliest 5am for full marathon (42km), where for my category it starts at 7am. I ran at a pace 5 (my normal pace is 6.5-7) in drizzle for the first 3km and slow down to 6-7 consistently until the end. Got a time of 1hr 06min (my own stopwatch).

Now, there's another few famous marathon coming up of which I will consider joining - Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore, Adidas King of the Road, and Penang Bridge International Marathon. Give it a go people!

Last Friday (24th of June), Mak and I planned for a jam practice at his house. Before that, we went for a minor purchase, guitar cable and strings, at CK Music. I bought the Vox cable there, while they don't have both 9-46 and 10-46 strings for electric guitar.

So, we walked over to JS Music (located at the same row) for it. Climbed up first floor, it's all drums before being directed to second floor for guitars and amps. While climbing up the stairs, I heard the sound of electric guitar. I did a guessing, where from the sound of it, I knew it would be a Fender electric guitar and an Orange amp. Upon arrival, we saw a sweet Asian girl, pale skin, brownish hair testing her white Fender Japan guitar with an Orange Tiny Terror tube amp (YES!). When she saw us, she quickly pack her guitar into her Mono bag and serves us. In my mind, I was like, "Wow, they have some seriously good looking girl as a worker."

While on the way back, I was so excited after seeing a professional female guitarist for the first time. We did a lot of guessing and chatting, where I said it would be great to know her as I did not have any female friends who played in a gig. Then I also said if she's a vocalist, it would be perfect and Mak said her voice is good for singing. But he also said she should be there just to test on the amp, not the worker. I just said, maybe.

The next day, Mak messaged me, "... she's half Japanese half Chinese, vocalist and guitarist for a band..." I then replied, "You sent wrong people?" He claimed, "It's the girl we met in JS Music yesterday, I asked my friend who worked there." Oh gosh, so she is everything I expected to. What's more, after I added her in Facebook, I got to know she's very active in the band/gig thing, where she's the lead vocalist and a guitarist, often plays in restaurant and bar, and recently even joined the Battle of the Bands. She also released her single album, under the name of ENDLESS ETERNAL. Wow... that's overkilling.

Ibanez GSR200BK and Orange CR25BX

Remember way back last year during my birthday post Happy 21st Birthday where I posted up 2 pictures and said what's possible to come? No? Never mind. Here they are, after a huge delay; my bass guitar Ibanez GSR200BK and the bass amp Orange Crush PiX 25BX.

Well, I did a lot of 'research' before buying them. For the guitar, there isn't much to choose based on my budget to get an entry level unit. It is either the Squier Affinity P/J Bass or this. Yes, you might think that Squier might be a better choice as it is under the umbrella of Fender. But truth to be told, I don't fancy Fenders due to it's hippy high treble sound and also, Squier craftsmanship varies on unit; you might get a bad guitar though it looks the same. On the other hand, Ibanez is a Japanese company. The relation to that is, they have solid quality of which each unit will be very much the same. Funny right? That's how I chose Ibanez.

The GSR200 is an active bass that requires battery (9V) to operate. There are 4 PHAT-II equalizer knobs which consist of (from top to bottom): Phat EQ Boost, front pickup volume, Tone and rear pickup volume. I still don't have any idea to properly tune them. If you had pressed the link above, you would know that the body is made of agathis while the fretboard is made of rosewood. It is also very light, if compare to an Epiphone Les Paul. The fretboard is slightly thinner than common, making it a bit easier to hover around. I actually tried holding the bass guitars available at Bentley Music Mutiara Damansara showroom and felt that this is the guitar I wanted.

As for the amp, I am rather clueless at the beginning. Luckily, my friend, Mak guided me and gave me insights on what amp would be good. Ditched many brands and came to a final conclusion between Vox Pathfinder 10 Bass and this. Both having great heritage, but I chose the Orange because of it's English lineage. English amp are very reliable, not to say American's not, but I prefer the vintage sound English amp produces. This also explains why I prefer Les Paul over Stratocaster. It's the sound they produce.

The Orange Crush 25BX is a 25 watt bass amp with 8" speaker. Body constructed from solid wood, wrapped in orange leatherette contribute to a mass of 9kg. I never turn the volume knob over 2 because it is seriously loud. There are relatively many settings to tinker with considering the price.

I bought both from a dealer which operates online and off, namely Dead Eye Guitars. He offers price considerably lower than shops and also advice on what to choose. Check his blog out if you're planning to buy guitar! Now, I'm pretty happy with my bass guitar and amp, considering the fat bass sound they produce. Now all I hope is to get better playing bass. I went to Uniqlo KLCC opening last Friday and bought a Cath Kidston Charity Project crew neck short sleeve tee for mom. I took a long time on selecting the best out of all, and I just knew I have to buy this. And little do I know this pattern is very 'hot'.

Nice? It's the best I seen.

A quickie here; I was browsing through fashion sites yesterday and came across Pelayo's blog (whom I followed last time). Scrolling down and down and wa-la! Guess what I found?

Earth Hour 2011 - Aftermath

Continuing from previous post. This year, I can see that there is not much participation from the people living in the area around my house. I wonder if it is the same with other areas in Malaysia. In the 2 years back, I celebrate Earth Hour together with my parents by watching the TV in the dark.

This year, my parents went out for celebratory dinner at 7:30 PM while I went out to run at the same time. It's a challenge I made to myself; run 8km within 56mins for this Earth Hour. And I did it in 51mins, what a feat for a beginner like me! I reached home in time to switch off everything (except 2 of the fridges, a ceiling fan for me to cool down and the water boiler). In the dark, I noticed that the night is kind of bright, not pitch black. Well the reason is rather simple, not many people switch off their lights. Can't blame my neighbours, there are many children and it's hard to take care of them especially in the dark. Here's a picture I nicked from the local newspaper;

I guess the hype faded among the citizens in Kuala Lumpur. Typical of Malaysian, only like stuff that's hot. People, please practice switching off non-essential electrical appliances on a daily basis. It helps :)

Earth Hour 2011

This Earth Hour, go beyond the hour.

At 8.30 PM (local time) on Saturday 26th March 2011, lights will switch off around the globe for Earth Hour and people will commit actions that go beyond the hour. Now imagine what we could achieve if we go beyond the hour. Together our actions add up. What will you do?

Yup, Earth Hour is back, at least here. I did a write-up about this Earth Hour campaign in 2009 (check here: Earth Hour 2009 and Support Earth Hour) and found that a staggering amount of people were still unaware of a certain facts I highlighted. Well not only myself, but a number of people highlighted these too.

What, you ask? Candles of course! You switched off the lights, you lighted up a candle. Candle is proven, scientifically or rather common sense that they are mostly made of petroleum, emit higher amount of heat per light they produce, and greenhouse gases too. And oh, you might risk having your house on fire. Many experiments and calculations shown that by switching on a conventional fluorescent or light bulb for a very long period of time it saves a lot more energy and thus your money compared to lighting many candles just to equate the similar amount of lights produced by electrical light bulbs. So if you want to support Earth Hour but can't risk having no lights to do whatever you deem important (ie; read a book), simple; Don't switch off your light.

In my opinion, the sole purpose of Earth Hour is not just for you to switch off your lights. It is for you to realise how important it can be by just switching off non-essential lights and other appliances when not in used. It helps producing less greenhouse gases, heat, energy and your money.

Here is what you can do:

1. Turn out your non-essential lighting and electrical appliances during Earth Hour, Saturday March 26, between 8:30-9:30 PM local time in all buildings you can control.

2. Turn out your non-essential lighting and electrical appliances during briefing hours (when not in used) on daily basis.

3. Sign up at http://www.earthhour.org/Homepage.aspx to show your commitment and to get further details.

4. Promote and encourage your friends, family and co-workers to participate in Earth Hour.

Go beyond the hour, together our actions add up.
